This is an extended project from Dr. Richard Jochum's Philosophies of Art in Education course.
The original collaborative assignment was to "reflect an understanding of knowledge in which art practice is a discrete from of research and complements the multiple layers of text baed, philosophical discourse". I worked with Meghan Duval on this assignment. We gave each other prompts and created artworks based on them.
In this extended project, I explored various ways of exhibiting and presenting art as a way to examine the definition of art.
Softwares and equipments:
Adobe Illustrator, Laser cutter, Polycam
Meghan Duval’s prompt:
This prompt has three steps and 1 alternative.
Step 1: Select and construct a form of display that one would find in a gallery or art
museum. For example: pedestal, frame, stand, etc. Make the display ready to receive art.
This may be done in 3D or digitally.
Step 2: Place within your display something – an object, image, etc that is not art.
Alternative 1: Take a photograph of something that is not art and print it.
Step 3: Be ready to discuss why that which you selected is not art, please address color,
line, scale and materiality in your explanation.
